Poland condemned Belarusian state media for spreading fake news, while Belarusian state media shift blame to Belarusian independent journalists
The WTF team found the report by an independent commission published on the Polish Ministry of Justice's website.
Warsaw accused Belarusian independent media of creating and spreading disinformation in Poland, reported "Gromov.LIVE" show on the NEWS.BY YouTube channel. The Weekly Top Fake team investigated who was actually identified as the source of the fake news.
The alleged report accusing Belarusian independent media of creating fake news was discussed on February 2, 2025, in the "Gromov.LIVE" program on the NEWS.BY YouTube channel.
"Earlier this month Polish authorities accused the opposition media of disinformation, posting an 84-page report on the official website of the Republic of Poland. The study was conducted by a government commission. They are accused of creating fake news, spreading false information, and other bad things. 'The involvement of Belarusian opposition figures particularly contributed to creating informational chaos in Poland,' the experts concluded in the report," said the voiceover.
The WTF team found the report by an independent commission published on the Polish Ministry of Justice's website, which was referenced in the video segment. The report is dedicated to studying the influence of Russia and Belarus on the spread of disinformation in Poland.
It does mention independent media, specifically the Telegram channel Nexta and its editor Tadeusz Giczan, as well as blogger Anton Motolko. But only in one episode related to the migrant crisis on the Belarus-EU border in 2021.
What "Gromov.LIVE" forgot to mention is that the report also includes Belarusian state media, such as the newspaper SB. Belarus Today and the TV channel Belarus-1. The report also references expert Alexei Dzermant. According to the commission, they disseminated unverified and manipulative materials during the migrant crisis on the Belarus-Poland border. The source of information was often the Belarusian State Border Committee.
