Did Yulia Navalnaya attend the Oscars after her husband's death? Let's check political scientist Lazutkin's claim

Alexei Navalny, the galvanizing Russian opposition leader, died in prison on February 16.

Pro-government political scientist Andrei Lazutkin presented on Belarusian TV photos of Yulia Navalnaya in a bright red dress at the Oscars. According to him, the photo was taken shortly after the death of her husband. The Weekly Top Fake team checks whether it's true.

Alexei Navalny, the galvanizing Russian opposition leader, died in prison on February 16. Two days later, Yulia Navalnaya vowed to continue her husband Alexei's fight.

Belarusian pro-government political scientist Andrei Lazutkin said on the TV channel СTV on February 20, that the widow didn’t mourn her husband but attended public events.

“And this is it. The Navalny brand is transferred to Navalny's wife. An hour after the death was reported, EU countries made a statement, and Biden delivered the address. The European Commission, and Zelensky. And on this day, his wife is speaking at the Munich Security Conference. She was taken to Tsikhanouskaya. Then she was shown at the Oscars. As you can see, no tears fell, there is no black color, no mourning. There is a social event in an evening dress. It is clear that a person may take a sedative and may be in shock. But the fact is that Navalny had a relationship with another woman,” he claimed two days after Navalnaya’s comments.

During his speech, the audience was shown a photo of Navalny’s wife in a red evening dress.

Yulia Navalnaya and her children were at the Oscars in 2023 when the documentary “Navalny” by Canadian director Daniel Roher won the award. The Russian opposition politician was still alive then.

The 2024 Oscars ceremony is scheduled for March 10. Since it has not yet taken place, the attendance of Navalny’s wife at it is nonsense.
