The BIC received the 2025 International Free Media Award. The jury recognised our in-depth analysis and news coverage, which we achieved in challenging conditions for independent journalism.
The awards were presented to journalists and media outlets from Ukraine, Georgia, Hungary, Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan. Six independent editorial teams and reporters in Eastern and Central Europe were recognised for their work during an extremely challenging period.
The Free Media Awards were established by the Norwegian Fritt Ord Foundation and the German ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. They are awarded annually to journalists and editorial teams that strengthen independent journalism and help society obtain reliable information despite pressure and censorship.
