Fact check: Propaganda Media Published Fake Photo of Daria Navalnaya in Open-Butt Dress

“Dasha Navalnaya at a buffet hosted by the Ukrainian Ambassador to the USA,” the Telegram post says.

Dressed in a revealing outfit, Daria Navalnaya, the daughter of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was killed in an Arctic prison, attended an event at the Ukrainian embassy in the United States, according to the authors of the Telegram channel Shkvarka News. The Weekly Top Fake team fact-checked the claim.

On April 11, 2024, the Telegram channel Shkvarka News published a photo of a girl in a black dress with a low cut at the back, opening her buttocks.

“Dasha Navalnaya at a buffet hosted by the Ukrainian Ambassador to the USA,” the Telegram post says.

As a result of a Google search, the FTW journalists found numerous publications with this photo on social networks.

One part of the posts identifies the girl as Navalny’s daughter. However, other authors claim she is Ekaterina Mizulina, the head of the Russian Safe Internet League.

In posts for 2021, the person from the image was also called the Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine. Then, posts for 2018 attributed the personality to Milana Skorobogatova, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in Bashkortostan, allegedly being at an event with the Bashkortostan governor.

With the search service TinEye, the FTW journalists discovered a 2017 photo of a similar girl. The link leads to the Facebook profile of a certain Svetlana Glebova. We did not find this photograph on her Facebook, but we found other images of the same girl in the same dress and with the same people in the frame. In the photo, you can see that the dress does have a low cut at the back, but not so much as to open the buttocks as the fake news performed.

We contacted the Facebook user to verify whether her photo was used in the fake news post. But at the time of release, we had no reply.

However, it is already clear that it is definitely not Daria Navalnaya shown in the fake photo.
